Halloween is a great time for friends, family, and, most importantly, children, to enjoy the frightful but fun nature of Halloween festivities. Trick-or-treating, candy, decorations, parties, and more make the spirit of the holiday flourish. Although we all love to party on Halloween, try to keep in mind some of these great energy saving tips!

Keep your door closed

Keeping your door closed—especially on frigid Halloween nights—is a great way to keep all of your heat from escaping outside. It’s important to look warm and inviting for trick-or-treaters, but you can use your door to put up lights, decorations, or Halloween signs that lets kids know you’re there to greet them. Plus, it’ll be more fun to be surprised by all of their scary costumes!

Use solar walkway lights

Walkway lights are a great way to invite kids to come to your front door. Not only are they inviting, but they help kids tread the right path and stay safe. Solar walkway lights will charge up during the day and shine bright at night without using any energy. Plus, you can get creative and use them as part of your Halloween decorations!

Use candles inside pumpkins

We all know how important it is to set the right mood for your Halloween decorations. Instead of using lights in your pumpkins, try using candles. Candles don’t use any energy, and they are much spookier than regular lights.

Remember to power down your decorations

After a successful night of Halloween trick-or-treating, or welcoming kids with frightful costumes at your doorstep, make sure you unplug or turn off your outside decorations after the night has quieted down. Leaving your lights or decorations on all night consumes a lot of energy and cuts right into your energy bill.

Turn down your heat during a party

If you’re hosting a Halloween party, make sure you turn down the heat by 1 or 2 degrees. If you’re anything like me, you will do a lot of cooking or baking so your guests will have some hot food or treats. Take advantage of the heat produced by your appliances and all of your guests. Don’t let it get too warm in your house or apartment. Turning down your thermostat ahead of time will help keep your guests comfortable and help you save energy!
