NSTAR’s Electric Rates to Increase 29%

As we noted in September, National Grid’s electric rates are increasing by 37% this winter. In a breaking news article in The Boston Globe, NSTAR announced a 29% electric rate increase, affecting “more than 1 million electric customers in 81 communities in eastern and central Massachusetts.” NSTAR attributes the rate increase due to shortages in natural gas, a key energy source for more than half of New Englanders. NSTAR customers are expected to see an extra $28.00 on their monthly bill.

Penni Conner, a senior vice president at Northeast Utilities, NSTAR’s parent company, urges “all NSTAR customers to take advantage of our efficiency programs to help reduce their usage, tighten up their homes, and keep energy bills down this winter.”

Prism Energy Services urges homeowners and business owners to heed this advice. If you’re a homeowner, please visit NSTAR’s residential energy efficiency page.
