National Energy Efficiency Day

Today, October 5, 2016, marks the nation’s first Energy Efficiency Day. Energy Efficiency Day was chosen for October to compliment National Energy Action Month, a campaign set in motion by the Obama Administration to draw attention to the benefits of a more sustainable nation and economy. Fittingly, October 5 also marks the first day of GreenBuild, a three-day conference and expo dedicated to green building.

Celebrating Energy Efficiency Day

A nationwide campaign will be championed by a network of advocates for energy efficiency, sharing news and content that emphasizes its importance and benefits on both the residential and commercial fronts. A large social media movement will take place with the hashtag #EEDay2016. Along with Prism Energy Services, other companies advocating for this nationwide event include:

How We Celebrate Every Day

Prism Energy Services celebrates energy efficiency daily. We help businesses find new growth opportunities by slashing costs, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and conserving water through energy efficiency upgrades and retrofits. We encourage everyone to think seriously about ways in which energy can be saved. Some of our best energy efficiency tips for businesses include:

  • Have an energy services company (ESCO) perform an energy efficiency evaluation of your facility
  • Turn off lights when not in use; or, install lighting sensors to do that automatically.
  • Replace incandescent and inefficient fluorescent (CFL) lighting with LED lighting, including EXIT signs
  • Install HVAC controls, including VFDs, DCVs, EC motors, and economizers
  • Install exhaust hood controls
  • Install an energy management system (EMS) to have full control over the energy consumption within your building
  • Have the building envelope examined for insulation, air sealing, weatherstripping, and air barrier improvements
  • Improve water conservation with faucet aerators, pre-rinse spray valves, low-flow showerheads, swimming pool covers, and high-efficiency toilets
